THE QUESTION :

How do I know when it's the right time to go back to work?

THE ANSWER:

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Sometimes you have to go back to work for financial reasons — perhaps your husband is the sole provider and lost his job, or you are going through a divorce. So you just have to go back to work, now.

If the reason is emotional, it’s more complicated. Maybe you find that working at home raising children isn’t satisfying enough. You feel like you’re missing part of yourself. That makes you feel guilty. You’re supposed to love being a mom, right?

Guilt can come from any decision, even from staying at home and not “contributing” in the work world. We women just love to beat ourselves up, don’t we? I ask moms to stop and look at the guilt. What is it telling you? Is it telling you to do something different? The point is to get over your guilt, so it goes from being immobilizing to mobilizing.

Maybe you don’t need a full-time job — maybe you just need to interact with other grown-ups, volunteering at school, or working part-time. But you do need to answer the “why” part before you start to look for work. Employers will ask you, maybe not directly, but it’s implied in the question, “Why do you want to work here?”

we moms must take time to think whether we need to work, other than being a mom or a wife.sometimes, the financial position is better if the wife brings in some money.but at what cost? it should never be at the cost of neglecting kids.never.if u have grown up kids who can manage to some extent by themselves and u have the strength to go out to work and come back home and be a good wife and a mom,u may consider going for work,a balance is needed.thats it

You need to determine what works best for you and your family. I myself felt the itch to go back to work, but didn\'t want to give up being home with my children. After numerous conversations with my mom friends nationwide I realized that I wasn't alone...we all wanted to be able to work a part-time/flexible schedule and be there for our kids. I searched online and couldn't find what I was looking for...so I created a job board for moms. I wish you all the best with your decision...just remember nothing is set in stone...you can always change your mind :)

FEATURED MOM MOMENTS

Not knowing much about kids, she left her makeup bag where it could be accessed.

Next we bought a bottle of lavender room spray and called it "monster repellant."

I just discovered the answer to my Mother-in-Law-is-on-the-way-over emergency cleaning.
