I think the Wii is a good game system. My kids have it at home. I don’t think you’ll get much muscular strength or aerobic activity from it, but it is physical activity. It’s like mowing the lawn for an adult. It won’t get you in shape, but it’s better than sitting around watching TV. For kids, it’s a good alternative to watching TV or playing video games or Monopoly or CandyLand. Even board games have more social interaction than many video games. My son often plays the Wii by himself.
Kids need 60 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days. That’s stuff like playing kickball, bike riding, in-line skating or swimming.
Now, one exception to this is Dance Dance Revolution. That’s a different kind of workout. There’s a pad that you step on, and it lights up like a tic-tac-toe board. You step on the board in a pattern to keep up with the pattern on the screen. You do need a computer to do it, so it can be expensive. But do that for 30 minutes and you’re getting much more vigorous activity.

My adult cousin who owns her own accounting firm and has a terribly active schedule, bought a WII system for her husband as an anniversary gift. Last year, before Christmas
she told me she was so busy with her work and personal schedule, she couldn't find time to go to the Gym. For Christmas, I boughter her the WII FIT SYSTEM with the accompanying BALANCE BOARD. The system was $89.00 at BEST BUY and included
everything needed. She now uses that instead of going to the Gym and LOVES IT. Perhaps you could get that for your kids to help them with more physical activity!
