THE QUESTION :

I have five kids: four in school and one at home for a few more years. I was just laid off from a very well-paying job for two days of work. I know that to make the money I was I will have to work full-time. Not a problem, except for the cost of full-time childcare! I am receiving unemployment for now. Is there anything I can do at home to make some extra money to help with our high bills?

THE ANSWER:

There are many opportunities for home-based work. Determine your skills and preferences first. There are many legitimate opportunities: telemarketing, sales, clerical work, secretarial or transcription support, mystery shopping, recruiting and so much more. But beware of scams while researching your options on the Web and elsewhere-- they're in abundance in nearly every area of work-at-home employment.

Not everyone succeeds working from home, though. You need a high level of discipline, strong work ethics, good organization skills and self-motivation skills for it to work. If you'll be working while your kids are home, you'll probably still need some form of childcare so that you can fully concentrate on your work. Establish work hours so that you can separate work from home, even though they'll both exist under the same roof.

I can share in your frustration with you. I only have 2 children so I may be slightly less busy, but we never stop in my house. After 7 years of looking I finally found a REAL legitimate company to work with from home. I am a very skeptical person, so I did my research. What I found I really liked and there was no risk involved. I have really found the freedom to be with my children and be a part of their lives. I don't have to get up early and sit in traffic and pay the high gas prices that go along with it. Childcare alone now is like paying another car payment. I would be more than happy to share with you all the details of my business and how you could start making money by next week. However, if this opportunity is not for you, my advise in your search would be to look for a legitimate company, with a good product and great training. A company that offers you support is the key. It's very hard to make money when you have no idea what you are doing. Good luck to you in your search. Working from home is very rewarding!

Working at home is no easy task, that's for sure. People always glorify it as if making a living on your own is easy. No way. But there's no question that some opportunities are easier to start than others.

Whether it's notary loan signing or medical billing, there are systems in place that you can learn, making the process much easier. Learn from others who have done the same thing before. Find a mentor or take a course from someone who knows what they're doing.

There are also a number of franchise and/or distributor models that can become wonderful businesses. I've been working with an exciting distributor-based model for the past few months and have been amazed at the early results. Yes, the company and product are both top notch but it's the system I'm so impressed with.

By using innovative internet marketing techniques, we're able to find new prospects and build our business faster than I have ever experienced before. Fact is; we need help. So if you're looking for a home-based opportunity, click on my name to watch a video about the company, the product and the compensation package.

Those of you who may have recently been laid off and are finding it frustrating to find a new employer can take the opportunity to start a home-based business to help create a stream of income while helping you develop new skills and confidence. As I mentioned in my original post, it is important to realize that not everyone can be successful working from home. Establish a routine, work hours, boundaries, and specific office space to work. There are various opportunities so be sure to research each opportunity you find and weigh your risk tolerance with the abiliities you have to succeed. As a mom, I truly believe that it helps a lot to enjoy the work you're doing and feel like it matters.
