From your description it sounds like you are alone with your son for a significant portion of the day -- which must be a very difficult mix for an active toddler and a bed-resting mom!
I suggest you utilize all resources available -- have your husband stop by the public library, perhaps daily, to pick up as many books and activity bags as possible. Many libraries have activity bags that partner books with a theme (such as dinosaurs), and may make for new play activities you can engage in with your son -- from the comfort of your bed.
Ask your doctor for specific parameters around your activity. Are you allowed to take your son out to a playgroup or library for story hour? It is important that he continues to engage with peers to stimulate his development. When your husband is home, make sure your son is able to get physically active with him; swimming lessons and special park or playground time will be very important to burn off steam if he is expected to be calm with you the majority of the day.
I understand that childcare may not be an option, but you might explore early head start in your area to see if that program is available. Check out the Administration for Children & Families Head Start Locator.
