If you haven't seen or heard Sarah Palin's speech last night she referred to herself and generalized the hockey mom population stating that "the only difference between hockey moms and pitbulls are...lipstick." Being a hockey mom of a 6 1/2 year old boy I can certainly tell you that I am by no means a 'pitbull'. Nor am I sure how that being a pitbull is something that one needs to be in order to be a VP candidate.
Being the co-founder of
Hybrid Mom, a company that wholeheartedly supports and empowers moms to follow their career and entrepreneurial goals, I am still on the fence about having a 44 year old VP mom with 3 young children, including one with special needs, and a pregnant teenage daughter. Not to mention the fact that I vehemently disagree with her stance on many topics.
Many republican politicians and FOXNews broadcasters have been stating that the general public and Democrats have been beyond disrespectful and sexist in asking the questions about Sarah Palin specifically how will she do it all and still be there for her children? I absolutely agree that this question is typically NOT asked of men running for office, however, this is the reality of what mothers have been dealing with since the beginning of time. It is not an unfair question to ask. Mothers are typically the full-time caregiver. Vice President of the United States is not a flexible job opportunity. I would imagine the travel, meetings, long days and pressures are not conducive to being a mother of FIVE, regardless of whether or not your husband is there to help. This stance does not a sexist comment make. It is reality and it's a fair question. Especially when the Presidential nominee is a POW that can snap at any given time, at 72 years old with a history of cancer, and can quite potentially not be around, leaving her to run the country. That is scary, not because she's a mother of 5, but because it seems that she definitely does not have the experience nor the capabilities to jump right into the waters and run this country.
I'm absolutely offended of her lack of honesty during the speech last night. Many of her comments certainly did not ring true to me - and yes, I was right.
Please read this article that shows how the truth was missing in her speech. If it's that easy for Ms. Palin to speak, lie and seem convincing in her first national speech, what will the future hold? Truthfully, I'd rather not find out.
I am all for the woman's movement and advancing of women in high ranking positions, but not when my life, my children's life and the future of this country could be at the sacrifice of it all.
Hockey moms, I want to hear from you!
