Hi my name is Kim. I have 2 daughters and I have smoked off and on for 32 years. January 30th I was on the
Today show with Dr. Nancy Snyderman, on their segment "Parents Vow to Kick the Habit" and vowed that I have quit for the last time.
I am very passionate about the 'special' subject of Moms and smoking. Because I failed at quitting so many times, I had to really sit with myself and ask why. I meet Moms all the time that share my experience of the hiding, the guilt, the beating ourselves up, the knowing we are being a bad Mom, airing out the car, the spays, the guilt (oh, I said that already). Why?? Why do I keep doing this to myself?

I reached this conclusion, at least for me. As women, especially as Moms, we DO, we fix, we take care of, we nurture, we love - everyone in our lives and we do a darn good job of it!!! Smoking, for me, was what I did for myself. It was just mine. I would purposely separate myself from 'life' and would grab a cigarette and go outside, alone, and calmly smoke. Relax.
IT WAS MINE - JUST FOR ME, ALONE TIME - RELAX TIME.
Well, I have gotten over myself and have committed to my children, and especially to myself, that I will find other ways to "be with me".
I will be on the
Today show again, with the 2 Dads, on March 5th for our follow up. I am doing great! Laser has been wonderful for me - NO issues at all. The best part has been the calmness that I feel (so much that my boyfriend wants to buy a machine - just in case).
Join me in being able to say to our kids when they come to us one day with a really tough issue: "I know this is a tough thing that you are going through but believe in yourself that you are strong enough and know that you can do it". I knew I had to believe that for myself or how could I ever say that to them?
I look forward to hearing from Moms.
