Today I experienced that rare and exotic treat: an afternoon to myself. It was a little overwhelming to be honest. What precipitated this event was the fact that I had a doctor's appointment in Manhattan and I had arranged for my daughter to go to a friend's house after school.
It was wonderful.
After my appointment, I had lunch at an old-school coffee shop. Then I took myself to the
Whitney.
I was able to get in for free (!). It has been years since I last
wandered around a museum without a toddler or husband in tow and
without any kind of schedule. I don't know what I reveled in more: the
alone time or being surrounded by such great and interesting art. I
meandered my way back to Midtown where I caught the F train to SoHo in
order to have a facial. It was a splurge, but then the whole day felt
like one big splurge.
I had a great time but I was thrilled to come back home and be with my family.
