futureblackmailThis is how I measure success as a MOM.
Mom's Day is special to me--because it reminds me of the one thing I
did in life that I know, without a doubt, changed the world. It was
something I succeeded at. I may fail daily by not making the best
dinners, skipping bath time and using the TV as a babysitter but I also
know that I hold in my back pocket the ability to push a 6 lb, 13 oz
baby out of me.
Things I know about being a Mom:- I can say with almost certainty that if she had weighed even one ounce more--she would still be hanging out in my tilted uterus.
- I can identify her cry in a room full of screaming children, as soon as that first sliver of noise crosses her lips.
- I can run faster, drive quicker and speak calmer when she is scared or hurt.
- I can wake up at the first clap of thunder (something I would otherwise sleep through) and wait for her to run to my room and climb into my bed. And when it's especially bad, I can meet her halfway.
- I can function on 4 hours of sleep. It ain't pretty but I can do it.
- I can look at my daughter and everything my Mom told me makes sense.
- I can give my life for my child, without hesitation.
- I can love her.
Things I know about being a Step-Mom:- I can be a good step-mom, although at first I'll admit, I was worried.
- I can laugh at his sense of humor because it mirrors mine.
- I can fight for him.
- I can demand action for him.
- I can protect him.
- I can push him towards his goals and congratulate him and be proud of him.
- I can recognize when something of importance is on his mind and talk to him. Not a lot though-he IS a teenager.
- I can love him.
I firmly believe that although women all over the world become Mothers, giving birth doesn't make you a Mom. I do not believe that all Mothers should be celebrated.
To all the Mothers out there that abuse, neglect, molest, embarrass, shame, and hurt children-this day is NOT for you. You should not be celebrating it as you do not deserve to be acknowledged.
I like to think of this day as Mom's Day.
I celebrate the people in my life and the Mom's I know that champion their kids, live for their successes, love them through their hardships and protect their innocence.
Happy Mom's Day to all those ladies out there who do what's right for their kids--biological or not.
