Keeping Baby Stimulated....Intellectually - Momtourage: Blogger Knows Best

As if it's not hard enough being a new mom as it is, now there's the added pressure of stimulating your new baby intellectually as well.  That hypnotic black and white mobile over their crib just won't do it anymore....now it's videos like Your Baby Can Read (which my best friend purchased) and infant playdates.  I saw that commercial again the other day, the one with the baby boy in the high chair giving stock market feedback and I actually thought it was real....a new enrichment program like Your Baby Can Trade.  It's not far off people, "...when baby picks a winning stock we reward him or her with a quiet time or a wheat-free, gluten free, carob cookie."  The New Wining - Teaching Your Baby All About Pinot - I'm telling you it's not that unrealistic.

I babysat my goddaughter yesterday and she's only 9 months old.  She's my best friend's first baby and she's a research scientist...my friend not the baby....but you'd never guess that from the baby's toy collection: a soft plush microscope (BOR-ING); and a play briefcase.  No kidding.  It was sad.  So I brought over a few of Lily's favorite things when she was a baby and we had a marvelous time: a few balls, all different colors and sizes; cups; a butterfly teething set; bubbles (these are so cheap and all kids love 'em - just keep 'em away from baby...unless baby is constipated); and hours of making funny faces and tickle-fests.

I put those Your Baby Can Whatever dvds back in the drawer and lied about watching them.  She can't read yet but I'm good at reading people especially the miniature ones: and from what I could see I think she had a great time.
