iVillage_The Love That hurts.jpgHere's a picture of Lily playing with her cousin Patrick.  Lily enjoys spending time with her cousin but she definitely has a healthy fear of him and it's well earned.  As one can tell from this photo, he likes to play rough.  So does she but boys, even at the age of 7 I find, are already exponentially stronger than girls.  No wonder why girls take Karate!  He likes to give her bear hugs and squeeze her neck (see Exhibit A).  His, is a love that kills.  However, she is about 2 inches taller than him already so he better watch out.  Pay back can be a beyotch my dear nephew.....as we found last weekend.....

Patrick was playing at the park with Lily when suddenly he got her in a some sort of Greco-Roman wrestling hold.  I swear I've seen the move on a vase in the Antiquities Section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art....or maybe it was in one of those naughty films, either way I've seen it before and I still don't care for it.  He had her pinned on the cold, hard ground before I had a chance to even finish my coffee.

As I was pulling him off her she went ballistic.  She started punching him and kicking him.  He was giggling with delight at her frustration which only stoked her little furnace of fury.  So she landed one final kick right in his crotch.  Ooooohhhh.  It was like something out of one of those America's Funniest Home Video Clips.  You know, where the man gets hit in the testicles by his kid with a wiffle ball bat and is prostrate with pain while the whole audience laughs.

Only I wasn't laughing and neither were any of the fathers.  There was a resounding chorus of, "oosh, that's gotta hurt" from all the men at the park.  However, I did find myself saying, "I'm sorry you're in so much pain but you got what you deserve.  You keep pushing her and I told you she was going to get you back."

While he was rolling on the ground wincing and moaning, Lily's girlfriends all came over to high five her.  It was so girl power, I could almost hear the Spice Girls.  Emma said, "You gotta come to my house and take care of my brother Sean."  By the time it was all over and I got back to my coffee it was cold, which to me is the same as being kicked in the testicles.

Lily and Patrick play like siblings, including all the drama and rivalry.  Boys, at least the ones in our family and our neighborhood, definitely play rougher than girls.  How do you stop them from beating up their sisters and cousins?  Do I just keep him separate from her?  He loves her, well at least he thinks he does...I'm sure there are many men in prison who feel the same way about their female counterparts...his love hurts.  I think it's high time my sister enrolls him in Football.  At least give all that male aggression a productive outlet.
